Overview
Your Billing Reconciliation report shows two different types of currency: the currency each guest used when they booked, and the currency Triptease invoices you in. Because guests can book in their own local currency while your invoice is issued in a single billing currency, it is normal to see several currencies across the report. This article explains how to interpret each column so the figures make sense.
How it works
The report captures the booking exactly as the guest made it, then converts the value into your billing currency so commission can be calculated consistently. Here is what each relevant column means:
Booking value — The value of the booking in the currency the guest used when making the reservation. Triptease captures this directly from your booking engine and confirmation page, so it reflects the currency shown to the guest at the time of booking. This may look different from your standard rates if you usually view those in your local billing currency.
Booking currency — The currency the guest booked in.
Booking currency to billing currency conversion rate — The exchange rate used to convert the booking value from the guest's booking currency into your billing currency.
Conversion rate date — The date the currency conversion was applied, so you can see which foreign exchange (FX) rate was used for that calculation.
Fees due — The commission owed to Triptease for that booking, based on your agreed commission rate.
Fees due currency — The currency Triptease invoices you in. This matches the currency shown on the invoice you receive.
The key point: the Booking value and Booking currency columns vary by guest and will show multiple currencies, while the Fees due and Fees due currency columns are always stated in your single billing currency.
📸 Screenshot recommended here — show a section of the Billing Reconciliation report with the Booking value, Booking currency, Conversion rate, Conversion rate date, Fees due, and Fees due currency columns all visible, with one row where the booking currency differs from the billing currency (e.g. a USD or GBP booking billed in EUR).
Common questions
Q: Why do I see different currencies in the Booking value column?
A: Each booking is recorded in the currency the guest used at the time of booking, so if your guests book in different currencies you will see several currencies in the Booking value and Booking currency columns. This is expected behaviour.
Q: What currency will my commission be charged in?
A: Your commission is always charged in your billing currency, shown in the Fees due currency column. This matches the currency on the invoice Triptease sends you, regardless of which currency the guest booked in.
Q: Why does the booking value look different from my normal room rates?
A: The booking value reflects the currency the guest saw at the time of booking, which may not be your local billing currency. If your rates are usually displayed in your billing currency, the figure can look different even though it is the same booking.
Q: How is the conversion rate decided?
A: The report applies the foreign exchange (FX) rate for the date shown in the Conversion rate date column, and that rate is used to convert the booking value into your billing currency for the commission calculation.
