Understanding the Google Hotel Ads and Website views in Parity Monitoring

How the Google Hotel Ads and Website views in Parity Monitoring calculate your parity, and why their numbers differ.

What this article covers

This article explains the difference between the Google Hotel Ads view and the Website view in Parity Monitoring, and how each view calculates your parity.

Overview

Parity Monitoring shows your parity through two channels: Google Hotel Ads (GHA) and Website. The two views answer different questions, so their percentages often differ. Knowing how each one works helps you read your numbers correctly and explain them to colleagues.

How it works

The Google Hotel Ads view

The Google Hotel Ads view is the default view in Parity Monitoring. It shows parity across a fixed set of itineraries taken from Google Hotel Ads: stays for 2 adults, from 1 to 7 nights, checking in over the next 90 days.

Every itinerary carries equal weight, whether or not guests searched your website for those dates. This gives you a broad, consistent picture of how competitive your direct price is on metasearch.

The view includes every OTA (Online Travel Agent) advertising against your hotel on Google, so it can include OTAs you haven't chosen in your settings.

The Website view

The Website view shows parity based on real searches guests make on your booking engine. It is weighted by how often guests search specific dates and room types, so the stays your guests look at most count most.

It only compares the OTAs you have selected in Settings > Property settings > Hotel Profile > Configure products > Parity > Configure OTAs. The Website view is only available if your hotel has a Parity, On-site Messages or AMP (Agentic Marketing Platform) subscription.

How to switch between the views

  1. In the left-hand navigation, go to Market Insights > Parity monitoring.

  2. The page opens on the Google Hotel Ads channel.

  3. To change view, select Website in the channel filter.

In short:

  • Website parity = what your guests searched for on your website

  • Google Hotel Ads parity = a full-market snapshot across common stay patterns on Google

Common questions

Q: What is the difference between the Website view and the Google Hotel Ads (GHA) view of parity?

A: The Website view is weighted by the searches guests make on your booking engine and compares only the OTAs you selected. The Google Hotel Ads view gives equal weight to every itinerary for 2 adults, 1 to 7 nights, over the next 90 days, and includes every OTA advertising against you on Google.

Q: What exactly is an "itinerary" in the Google Hotel Ads view?

A: An itinerary is a stay for 2 adults, from 1 to 7 nights, checking in at any point in the next 90 days.

Q: Why do my parity numbers look different between the two views?

A: The Website view only counts dates guests searched on your booking engine, while the Google Hotel Ads view counts all dates equally. If OTAs undercut you on dates guests rarely search, your Google Hotel Ads parity will look worse; if guests mostly search dates where OTAs are cheaper, your Website parity will look worse.

Q: Can I make the Website view my default?

A: No. Since October 2026, Parity Monitoring always opens on the Google Hotel Ads view and the default can't be changed. If your hotel has the Website view, it is one click away in the channel filter.

Q: Why has the Website view disappeared from my dashboard?

A: The Website view is only available to hotels with a Parity, On-site Messages or AMP subscription. Hotels without one of these subscriptions see only the Google Hotel Ads view. If you think you should have it, contact your Customer Success Manager.

Q: Why do I see so many OTAs in the Google Hotel Ads view?

A: The Google Hotel Ads view lists every OTA advertising against your hotel on Google, including ones you haven't selected in your settings. Use the OTAs filter to focus on the ones that matter to you.

Q: Does the view I choose affect Price Match?

A: No. The views only change how parity data is shown in Parity Monitoring. Price Match works the same way whichever view you look at.

Q: Does the Google Hotel Ads calculation apply to my historical data?

A: Yes. All data in the Google Hotel Ads view, including past periods, uses the same itinerary-based calculation, so you can compare periods fairly.

Q: What should I tell colleagues when I share parity reports?

A: Say which view the figures come from, and compare periods using the same view. Google Hotel Ads and Website figures measure different things and should not be compared with each other directly.
