What is an Email Capture Message?

An Email Capture Message is a type of Targeted Message that allows potential guests to submit their email address so that you can contact them directly. This is a great message type to use to bring guests back to your website if they weren’t quite ready to book the first time round.

You can set them in the exact same way that you set up any other message type. Just click Create Message then select Email Capture. The rest of the set up is exactly the same as usual - select your target audience, design your message and publish instantly.

An Email Capture Message appears in the same place as a Nudge Message - the bottom left hand side of the screen. It also takes priority over a Nudge Message, so if there’s a customer who qualifies to see both messages they’ll see the Email Capture first, rather than the Nudge. The message will always show on its designated page until it has either been dismissed or the customer’s email has been submitted. Once it has been dismissed, any additional Nudge Messages will then display.

One important thing to note is that - as this message is collecting visitors’ email addresses, which is personally identifiable information - we want to make sure this is all above board and GDPR compliant. We have added in a tick box into the message design, so that you can get explicit consent from the visitor to collect their email address. Until you have completed the Email consent section of the Design tab in the Message Builder, you will not be able to publish your message. Similarly, until a customer has ticked the checkbox on the message when it appears on your website, they will not be able to submit their email address.

Every time a website visitor submits their email address you’ll be sent an email with their contact details so that you can get back to them directly. You also have the option to download all the customer emails to a csv file straight from the Message Manager whenever you like. Just click the Download icon next to the Duplicate Message icon on the right hand side of the relevant message. Clicking this icon will download all details captured for that message.

The csv will include:

  • The date and time the email was collected (UTC time zone)

  • The visitor’s email address

  • The URL of the page the email address was collected on

The data downloaded will respect any date-related filters that have been applied in the Message Manager at the time of the download (i.e. if your Message Manager view is set to seven days, your csv will only include emails collected during that time frame).

You can review the performance of your Email Capture Messages in the Message Manager just like you do with your Full Screen and Nudge Messages
