How to create a GTM container?

This article explain how to create a Google Tag Manager container (if you don't have one) to add the Triptease script to the website and/or booking engine

Updated this week

1. Sign in to Google Tag Manager

  1. Log in with the Google account you want to own the container.

2. Create a new account (if needed)

If this is the first time the hotel is using GTM:

  1. Click Create account.

  2. Fill in:

    • Account name: usually the business or hotel group name.

    • Country: hotel’s country.

  3. Under Container name, enter something clear like:

  4. Under Target platform, select Web.

  5. Click Create and accept the Terms of Service.

If an account already exists, skip this and just add a new container inside the existing account (Account → three‑dot menu → Create Container).

3. Get the GTM container code

After creating the container:

  1. GTM will show you two snippets:

    • One <script> for the <head>

    • One <noscript> for right after the opening <body>

  2. Copy both snippets and send them to the hotel’s web developer or booking engine provider to install on:

    • The website (if needed), and

    • The booking engine pages.

Once those snippets are live, the container exists “on the page” and you can start adding tags (like the Triptease script) inside GTM. For more information please check this quick guide.

4. Add the Triptease script as a tag

After the container is installed on the site / BE:

  1. In GTM, go to your new container.

  2. Click Tags → New.

  3. Tag type: Custom HTML.

  4. Paste the Triptease script (here)

  5. Trigger: All Pages

  6. Save and Submit/Publish the container.
