What is a web script?

What is a script and how to add it to your website and booking engine

Updated yesterday

What is the script and where can I find it?

Web scripts (sometimes called tracking codes) are invisible to your website visitors, but help us to track the actions they are taking on your website.

Web scrips collect data about the pages they visit, which Triptease products they have seen and interacted with, whether they have made a search on your booking engine, and whether they have made a booking on your website.

To ensure all our on-site products function correctly (including on-site messages, emails and performance tracking) it’s crucial that our script is installed across all pages of your:
- website (main hotel page, offers, experiences, rooms, others);
- booking engine (rooms and rates, checkout page and confirmation page).
Restoring the script is essential so you can take full advantage of the tools available and continue driving strong results.

Please find the script and documentation to resolve this issue on the platform at: Settings > Group settings > Integration scripts > Integration guide

Our recommended way of getting this script onto your page is via a tag manager (e.g. GTM).

Once your team has implemented the script, please let the Customer Success team know so we can verify that everything is working properly via customersuccess@triptease.com

Booking engines

SynXis

Option 1 – Add the script via SynXis BE Designer (recommended)

If you have access to the SynXis BE Designer Tool, this is usually the simplest way to add the script across your booking engine.

1. Log in to SynXis BE Designer

  • Go to the SynXis BE Designer Tool

  • Sign in with your SynXis credentials

2. Open the Tracking Hooks section

  • In the top navigation, go to:
Pages → General → Tracking Hooks

  • You should see fields that let you inject code into different parts of the booking flow (for example, into the <head> or specific steps like Rooms & Rates, Checkout, Confirmation).

3. Paste the Triptease script

  • Add the script to the Head (global)
This is usually the best option, as it loads Triptease on all pages of the booking engine.

  • In Tracking Hooks, locate the field for the Head section.

  • Paste your Triptease script exactly as provided in your Triptease platform (here).

  • Save your changes.

Option 2 – Add the script via Google Tag Manager

If your SynXis booking engine already loads a Google Tag Manager (GTM) container, you can add the Triptease script through GTM instead of the BE Designer.

  1. Add Triptease script in GTM
In GTM, create a New Tag:

    • Tag type: Custom HTML

    • HTML content: your Triptease script (The script can be found here)

  2. Set the trigger to:

    • All Pages (so the script runs on every page where the GTM container is loaded), or

    • A more specific trigger that covers all booking engine URLs, if your GTM setup separates the website and booking engine.

  3. Save the tag and Publish the container.

MEWS

To connect the Triptease script with your MEWS booking engine, you’ll need to use Google Tag Manager. If you don’t have a GTM container, create one and add the script to it.

1. Create a Google Tag Manager Container (if you don’t have one).

2. Add the Triptease script (can be found here) to the GTM container.

3. In your MEWS booking engine settings, go to Services > Stay > Booking Engines.

4. Add the GTM Container ID (same one used in the previous step).

5. Save the settings. ✅ Done! Make sure the correct GTM container ID is used and everything’s connected.
