How to set up access to Metasearch data in BigQuery

Overview

The Triptease cross-channel data feed lets you pull your Metasearch performance data directly into your preferred business intelligence (BI) tool, without scheduled exports or manual spreadsheet work.

With the data feed, your Metasearch metrics are available in BigQuery and ready to connect to whatever BI tool your team uses, whether that's Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or something else entirely.

This is the first phase of a broader initiative to make Triptease reporting data available wherever you need it. Metasearch is live now, with more channels to follow.

---

What data is included

The cross-channel data feed currently covers Metasearch performance metrics. These are fully consistent with what you see in Triptease's cross-channel reporting and attribution models, so the numbers will match.

Metrics available include:

  • Impressions and impression share

  • Clicks and click-through rate (CTR)

  • Cost and cost-per-click (CPC)

  • Budget data

  • Bookings, revenue, and return on ad spend (ROAS)

  • Attribution data aligned with Triptease's cross-channel model

Note: Impression share and budget data were previously only accessible through scheduled Looker reports. The data feed makes these available to query directly.

How the data feed works

Triptease delivers your Metasearch data to a BigQuery dataset. Once your dataset is set up, you connect BigQuery to your BI tool using that tool's standard BigQuery connector. From there, you can build dashboards, run queries, and join your Triptease data with performance data from other providers, all in one place.

The datasets are documented in BigQuery, so your data or analytics team will have full context on what each field contains and how metrics are calculated.

Prerequisites

Before setting up the data feed, confirm the following:

  • You have access to a Google Cloud project with BigQuery enabled

  • Your BI tool supports a BigQuery data source connection (most major tools do)

  • You have the relevant permissions within your organization to connect external data sources

If you are unsure whether your setup meets these requirements, contact your Triptease account manager before proceeding.

Setting up the data feed

Step 1: Contact your Triptease account manager

The cross-channel data feed is currently rolling out to customers. Reach out to your account manager to confirm you are enabled for the feature and to get your BigQuery dataset details.

You will need:

  • Your BigQuery project ID

  • Your dataset name

  • Confirmation of which properties are included in your feed

Step 2: Locate your dataset in BigQuery

Once your account manager confirms your dataset is ready:

  1. Log in to your Google Cloud console at console.cloud.google.com

  2. Navigate to BigQuery from the left-hand menu

  3. In the Explorer panel, search for your project ID or dataset name

  4. Open the dataset to view the available tables and their schemas

  5. Click any table name to view its schema, including field names, data types, and descriptions

Step 3: Review the dataset documentation

Full documentation for each field and metric is available directly in BigQuery. Before building any reports or dashboards, review the field descriptions to understand how metrics are defined and how attribution is applied.

Note: Pay particular attention to how impression share and budget fields are structured. These were not available in the standard cross-channel reporting UI before, so the schema documentation will help you use them correctly.

Step 4: Connect BigQuery to your BI tool

The steps here depend on which BI tool you use. In most cases, you will:

  1. Open your BI tool and navigate to the data sources or connections section

  2. Select BigQuery as your data source type

  3. Authenticate using your Google Cloud credentials

  4. Select your project and the Triptease dataset

  5. Choose the tables you want to use and load them into your reporting environment

Refer to your BI tool's documentation for connector-specific instructions:

Step 5: Build your reports

Once connected, your Triptease Metasearch data is available alongside any other data sources you have in your BI tool. You can join it with data from your property management system (PMS), your revenue management system (RMS), or other marketing channels to build a unified performance view.

---

Joining Triptease data with other sources

One of the primary use cases for the data feed is combining your Triptease Metasearch performance with data from other providers in a single report. When joining datasets:

  • Use date and property identifiers as your join keys

  • Check that date formats and time zones are consistent across sources

  • Attribution models vary by provider, so be explicit about which numbers come from which source when building combined revenue or ROAS views

FAQs

Why is the data feed currently limited to Metasearch?

The first release was built around a specific customer need for Metasearch data. As demand grows for other channels and metrics, the scope of the data feed will expand. If you need data from a specific channel that is not yet available, let your account manager know.

How often is the data updated?

Contact your account manager for the refresh schedule specific to your dataset.

Will the metrics match what I see in the Triptease platform UI?

Yes. The data feed uses the same attribution models and metric definitions as cross-channel reporting in the Triptease platform. If you see a discrepancy, contact support.

I have a data or analytics team who wants to explore the dataset. Where should they start?

Direct them to the BigQuery dataset documentation, which contains full field-level descriptions. The datasets are publicly documented within BigQuery, so your team can review schemas and query the data without needing additional access beyond the dataset itself.
