Overview
Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a free Google tool that lets you install and manage scripts on a website without editing site code directly. If you plan to install the Triptease script via GTM, you first need a GTM container set up for the hotel. This article walks through creating the account, generating the container snippets, and adding the Triptease script as a tag.
How to create a GTM container
Sign in to Google Tag Manager
Go to https://tagmanager.google.com/ and log in with the Google account that will own the container.
Create a new account (if needed)
If this is the first time the hotel is using GTM:Click Create account
Enter an Account name — usually the business or hotel group name
Enter the hotel's Country
Under Container name, enter something clear like
hotelname.comorHotel Name – Booking EngineUnder Target platform, select Web
Click Create and accept the Terms of Service
If an account already exists, skip this step and add a new container inside the existing account: Account → three-dot menu → Create Container.
Get the GTM container code
After creating the container, GTM will show you two snippets:A
<script>snippet for the<head>A
<noscript>snippet for right after the opening<body>
Copy both snippets and send them to the hotel's web developer or booking engine provider to install on:The website (if needed)
The booking engine pages
Once those snippets are live, the container exists on the page and you can start adding tags (like the Triptease script) inside GTM.
Add the Triptease script as a tag
After the container is installed on the site and booking engine:In GTM, go to your new container
Click Tags → New
Tag type: Custom HTML
Paste the Triptease script (provided by your Triptease contact)
Trigger: All Pages
Click Save, then Submit/Publish the container
Common questions
Q: Do I need a separate GTM account for each hotel?
A: No. You can have multiple containers within a single GTM account — one container per hotel website or booking engine is typical. This makes it easier to manage scripts across a portfolio of properties.
Q: Who installs the <script> and <noscript> snippets on the website?
A: Your web developer or booking engine provider. The snippets must be installed on every page where the Triptease script needs to fire.
Q: Where do I get the Triptease script to paste into the tag?
A: You can find your script and the installation documentation in the Triptease platform under:
Settings → Group settings → Integration scripts → Integration guide
